Sangal Papers Limited (SPL) is engaged in the manufacture and sale of newsprint as well as printing and writing paper (PWP) was incorporated in 1980 and has its manufacturing operations in Mawana (Distt. Meerut, Uttar Pradesh). The company is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The company initially began manufacturing kraft paper but faced some technical issues. On account of continuing losses, the net worth of the company was fully eroded and the company was referred to BIFR in 2001. The Draft Rehabilitation Scheme was circulated by the BIFR in 2004, wherein the repayment towards financial institutions was restructured and the equity base of the company was devalued. The company began repayment of restructured loans in 2005 and the operational performance has been satisfactory since then.

The company forayed into production and exports of construction paper in the FY2012 and is presently producing around 150-200 tonnes per month of construction paper. SPL currently has a production capacity of 33,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA). The company uses coal and agro-waste for its power and fuel requirements. It sources major raw materials namely waste paper primarily from the domestic traders. The customer base of the company comprises various domestic newspaper publications, paper traders and publications.
